On Friday 15th July, a group of 25 female singers performed Salute by Little Mix at Liverpool Airport. It was all part of an empowering campaign by Savera UK to raise awareness and fight issues including honour killings, forced marriage and female genital mutilation.

I was asked to get the group of singers together, write the choral arrangement and musically direct the group and I was hugely proud to be involved. I chose a diverse group of female singers including a number of girls from Birkenhead High School Academy’s vocal group and members of Sense of Sound Singers. The singers did a fantastic job and put their hearts and souls into the event. A big thank you to Heather Tomlinson who put the movement into the piece to bring it to life.

The video of our flash mob has been retweeted thousands of times, helping the #RememberShafilea campaign to spread across the globe.
