Liverpool Pride

I was very proud to be part of Liverpool Pride on 31st July. Jennifer John asked me to co-direct Sense of Sound’s commission with her to put together two hours of choir performances at Pride’s ‘Family Day’ on the steps of St George’s Hall. We brought six choirs together to perform in their own right and to sing together as one massed group. The choirs that performed were: The Liverpool LGBT Choir, The Choir With No Name, Sunlight Unplugged, Up For Arts, Kaboodle Community Choir and Sense of Sound Singers.

All the songs were linked to Liverpool.

Over the past couple of months, I have been putting together the musical arrangements for the massed choir performances and also for Sense of Sound Singers’ own set. In the first set when we performed on our own, we sang Ideal World by The Christians and Tainted Love by Soft Cell.

All the choirs came together for a triumphant set of songs: Ferry Cross The Mersey, Valerie, Imagine, You To Me Are Everything, There She Goes, The Power Of Love, Let It Be, You’ll Never Walk Alone, Harvest For The World and finally Cilla Black’s ‘You’re My World’, led by the wonderful Thomas Lang.

It was a rousing performance and the singers really came together as one. The crowd were fantastic and the spirit of the whole event was really special.
