85 pupils to sing Christmas carol ‘Hark, the Herald Angels Sing’ in front of TV millions
A Wirral school choir is set to perform on the Christmas edition of Blue Peter today.
A total of 85 pupils from Birkenhead High School Academy will take part in the performance on the famous childrens’ TV programme.
The girls have been busy practicing ‘Hark, the Herald Angels Sing’, which they will sing alongside others including The Salvation Army Band and Chester Cathedral Choir.
Explaining how the pupils have been preparing for the show, Chris Watson, director of music at Birkenhead High School Academy, said: “The pupils are so excited about this wonderful opportunity and have been working incredibly hard to prepare for their first ever televised performance.”
Emily Pierce, a soloist in the choir and Year 8 pupil, said: “Our friends and family are all looking forward to watching us on TV. We’re a little nervous but have been practicing non-stop to make sure we do our best on the day.”
The academy, a member of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), specialises in music. The performance comes as the school prepares to host the GDST’s Young Musician and Young Vocalist of the Year event in February.
You can watch the girls perform on Blue Peter today on CBBC from 5.30pm.
The show will also feature performances from the Liverpool Signing Choir and the Northop Junior Brass Band , along with the stars of West End musical Dickens Abridged.
